So says the Attorney General with reference to the sentences handed down to the killers of PC Andrew Harper.
Who could not agree with Suella Braverman when she says that attacks against emergency workers should be “punished with the greatest severity for such heinous crimes”
Henry Long, Albert Bowers and Jessie Cole were all cleared (wrongly in my opinion) of murder charges but were convicted of manslaughter.
Long was sentenced to 16 years whilst Bowers and Cole were each sentenced to 13 years.
The Attorney General has referred the sentences to the Court of Appeal.
Lets hope that the Court of Appeal will deliver the justice deserved by PC Harper.
Well as near to justice as we can expect in this country.
Hashem Abedi along with his brother Salman, are the cowardly murderers of 22 people at the Manchester Arena in 2017.
Yesterday Hashem Abedi was sentenced at the Old Bailey, for his part in the atrocity, to be detained for a minimum of 55 years.
Abedi, a coward from the start, left his brother, Salman Abedi, to carry out the attack. He fled to Libya before the attack. And when it came down to it he refused to leave his cell at the Old Bailey, wouldn’t even face the families of his victims, for sentencing.
Some will be calling for the return of the death penalty. I would join that call. However, it would not help those that are left behind. 55 years is justice of a sort as it is likely that Abedi will remain incarcerated for the rest of his life.
But, there can never really be justice as the friends and families of the dead and injured, will have to live with the results of the Abedi brothers actions, for the rest of their lives.
It’s not Boris Johnsons fault that these folks are homeless. It’s not Priti Patels fault that they are trekking across europe.
But it is their fault that Britains stance is not strong enough to deter them from trying to cross the channel in an ever growing armada of boats that are not fit for purpose.
They know that we will look after them when they arrive on our beaches. This is wrong.
What they should know is that we will give them a bottle of water and a packet of sandwiches and that they will be put on a boat and transported back to France, or whichever country their ill conceived voyage started from.
These people should be put on a boat and returned to the coast of their departure. This could be done within 24 hours. Just return them to the beach from which they started their crossing.
When are european countries going shoulder some responsibility and take action to stem the tide ?
I like to consider myself quite laid back, liberal minded and definitely not racist, but I find myself becoming more and more angry when ever I watch the news.
The bleeding hearts on the media will tell you that these people are destitute, oppressed and fleeing from danger.
They are not.
They are crossing the channel from France, and other countries. These people may have come from war torn countries but they don’t stop travelling once they have arrived in a safe country. They carry on migrating through safe countries with one destination in mind, Great Britain.
They are not destitute, if the media is to be believed. They are paying way over the odds to criminals so they can cross the channel in small overloaded boats. I have seen £5000 as a figure, the fee they pay to criminal gangs. This is many times more expensive than crossing legally on a ferry or via the channel tunnel.
So why don’t they cross in the same way as you or I would do ?
They haven’t got a passports or a visa. You or I, trying to cross legally, would be turned back at the border ….. IN FRANCE. And don’t forget, most of them are not EU citizens either so they, even if they have retained their passports, do not have the same rights as EU citizens for cross border travel.
Lets also not forget the security issues associated with taking these people under our collective wings. These aren’t families making this crossing. Some are, and some are unaccompaied children who have been put in these boats and cast off with no thoughts to their continued safety. Who would send their children off into the unknown? Predominantly though, they are young men. Young men who have left their homes and families behind. I don’t doubt that some are truly fleeing from awful conditions. But not all. Many have their eye on the handouts that the UK is renowned for. I also believe that some of these young men have darker intent.
Isn’t anyone worried by the large numbers of fit young men that are crossing into our country ? How many of them are ISIS sleepers ? Men that could be slipping ino the UK with ill intent for our future.
It’s time our government gave some teeth to our security forces and let them turn the tide of this illicit trade and send a strong message across the world.
Shannons are an insurance company, in Australia, providing Car Insurance, Motorcycle Insurance, and Home Insurance products for motoring enthusiasts who drive imported, modified, classic, veteran or vintage cars.
Each year they host a classic car show. Somehow, despite numerous visits to Perth over the years, I have failed to hear anything about the show. Until now, that is.
Which is how I came to spend around three and a half hours of this past Sunday, being totally surrounded by some of the most amazing classic, veteran and vintage vehicles.
Well OK, I did take a break during that time. One does have to keep body and soul together and a fabulous Brisket Burger, courtesy of “Up In Smoke”, helped with that task.
The show presented a vast array of vehicles. As soon as I had paid my $10 entry fee I found myself surrounded by several Lamborghinis
…. I still think the Miura P400 is the best looking Lambo. No sign of one at this show.

But who wants to waste time looking at high tech super cars …
… when there are classic Volvos. Who remembers The Saint, starring Roger Moore as Simon Templar in his white P1800.

… or Fiats … My wife and I used to own a dark blue Fiat 128. It took us, with two daughters, all the way from Portsmouth in the UK, down to Port Grimaud in the south of France where we toured around Cannes, Nice, St Tropez and Frejus. A glorious two weeks.

… and VWs … Note the strange protuberance on the side of the Herbie lookalike. It’s not a rocket booster but a retro-fit air conditioner. Working in much the same way as the evaporative air conditioners used on many Australian homes.

… no Classic Car Show would be complete without Citroen, responsible for some of the most innovative, technologically advanced cars. And, at the same time producing some of the, mechanically, simplistic vehicles that became iconic in their own right.

… 3 Wheelers like the Messerschmitt, with its aircraft cockpit bubble and even an aircraft style yoke to steer by. The Isetta could be driven in the UK on a motorcycle license, because it was classified as a three wheel motorcycle. I did note the absence of Rodney and Del Boys vehicle of choice, the Reliant. I guess WA is a little too far from Peckham for Trotters Independent Trading Co.

… a few fabulous Austin Healeys. As a school boy I used to lust after a 3000 that I would see regularly in Battle High Street. It was aubergine in colour and had a roll cage, wide wheels and leather straps to hold the bonnet down. The typical “Frog Eye” Sprite was a bit girly by comparison.

… there were a few Fords … what is there to say. Cars for every man. Although not everyman wanted to have the same as everyone else. Hence the many uprated, sporty customisations. I have to say I never thought I would see a Mustang towing a trailer. Especially not a trailer made out of another Mustang. Sacrilege !!!

Never too old to learn something new. I was informed, by a very friendly fella, that the Slant 6 Engine is really a thing. Until Sunday, I had never heard of such a thing. Apparently the Slant 6 enabled the cars designers to achieve a lover profile for the bodywork.
… There was a strong showing from the Holden camp. Many examples especially given the recent news that Holden are ceasing production . My favourite is shown below.
… no show is complete without a Cobra or two ….
Of course it is hard to tell an original, from a replica licensed as a Shelby authorised continuation of the original AC-built Cobra series. Whatever they may be, they are fabulous looking cars.
Of course I could go on throwing up image after image of classic cars but that isn’t all that was available here.
There were trucks …
… Busses … apparently the City Clipper used to offer free rides around Perth city. Interesting that Luxembourg has just announced free public transport in a bid to alleviate traffic congestion. It remains to be seen if the scheme works. Nice to know that Perth was such an innovator, back in the day.
I’ve already shown you a VW camper of sorts. Here are a couple of other campers.

And finally, something most unexpected …. Perambulators ….. Prams !!!. I remember my sisters being pushed around in something similar. No collapsible buggies back then. Definitely not car friendly.

A man is assaulted, albeit with an egg. He retaliated with a couple of slaps.
The Australian Prime Minister says the assault victim should be charged !!!
The victim, Australian Senator Fraser Anning, may be anti Muslim but he was assaulted and in my book was perfectly justified in his reaction.
There should be no support for his assailant.
Compare the reactions here in Oz to those seen when British MP John Prescott was egged. Prescott actually punched the assailant. His boss, Tony Blair, is reported to have said “John is John when asked to comment.
Time to get real and focus on real issues methinks.
Shadow home secretary Diane Abbott said the child had died as a result of the “callous and inhumane” decision to strip Ms Begum of her citizenship while Tory MP and former justice minister Phillip Lee urged the government to “reflect” on its “moral responsibility” for the tragedy.
No Diane Abbott, the decision to strip Ms Begum of her citizenship is not “callous and inhumane”.
What is “callous and inhumane” is the support that women, like Ms Begum, give to terrorists.
The death of Ms Begum’s child is entirely down to her own personal life choices. The British Government does not need to “reflect” on its “moral responsibility” since these terrorist supporters have shown no moral responsibility.
I am fed up with the constant carping on about how the UK is mistreating or being unfair to wrong doers in general and terrorists and terrorist supporters in general.
As far as I am concerned these people stepped outside the law and, at that time, they relinquished all human rights, in the same way that they denied their innocent victims their human rights.
I have no sympathy for these women and they should not be allowed back into the UK.
