Copnor Road before the bridge was built – Remember When – Portsmouth News

Copnor Road before the bridge was built – Remember When – Portsmouth News.

The News carries on in its inimitable bumbling manner. The title of the article is in direct contradiction with the first sentence of the article.

Copnor railway bridge opened in 1908, three years before this picture of Copnor Road, Portsmouth, was taken.

I enjoy reading the many and various articles that they publish but I do wonder …. Does anyone at The News ever read what they publish ?

As a member fo the public I am disgusted with the way that the police are treated in general. I am disgusted that we as a nation expect more from our police forces and then expect them to do it with less. This post has highlighted how misinformation can distort ones view. Thank you for clarifying.

There are some basic facts that need to be cleared up. You wouldn’t think “facts” needed clearing up would you because they are facts; the truth and therefore should be clear to all. Unfortunately Mr Green the Policing Minister has either been misinformed or is not telling the truth.

Starting with NPAS’s headline figure20-minute response times for 98% of the population” this is plain untrue and was based on flawed maths by people who didn’t understand what they were talking about at NPIA. Here’s how they worked it out. Find out how far a helicopter flies in one minute (2 miles) multiply that by 20 minutes = 40 miles now get a map of the UK and draw 40 mile radius circles around each of your proposed helicopter bases and see how much of the Country that covers – ooh looks great. Pat each other on…

The evening saw a presentation, held at the Milestones Museum in Basingstoke, which was given by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

As is well known, there is no Government funding for any of the air ambulances throughout the country, and this vital service is reliant on the help of the public for the ability to continue to operate in its role of getting seriously injured people to hospital in the shortest possible time.

The air ambulance always carries at least 2 Paramedics, and it is hoped that, before long, a Doctor will always be available on each flight.

The whole of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight can be reached in less than 20 minutes from the base at Thruxton Airfield.

The venue, Milestones Museum, gives a fascinating glimpse into the past, with a wide range of cars, lorries, buses, locomotives and steam engines, including several buses…

The World of F1 Bids Farewell To The “Prof”

On September 12th, at the age of 84, Sid Watkins, the world-renowned neurosurgeon has died after suffering a heart attack.

The world of motor sport and in particular  Formula One bids farewell to the former medical delegate.

Watkins was the on-track surgeon for 26 years from 1978 through to 2004, with his crusade to improve medical facilities in Formula One helping to dramatically cut the number of deaths and serious injuries in the sport

Following Watkins retirement Max Mosley said

Professor Watkins has made a unique contribution to improving the standards of safety and medical intervention throughout motor sport.

Many drivers probably owe their lives to the Prof, both to his efforts as a first responder on the circuits and to the improvements that he instigated. Amongst those he helped to save are Gerhard Berger, Martin Donnelly, Érik Comas, Mika Häkkinen, Rubens Barrichello and Karl Wendlinger.

Watkins was married with six children and my thoughts are with his family.

I love this and I hope you don’t mind me stealing this as a further tribute to Neil Armstrong

I’m sure you’ve all heard of the sad news about the passing of Neil Armstrong. As a small tribute I’ve made a short comic.

If you’ve read this blog before you’ll probably know I’m super into space and Neil helped spark that. See when I was growing I honestly didn’t know any other Neils and I grew to almost dislike my name until my mum told me about Neil Armstrong the astronaut. Then I suddenly thought Neils were awesome and learning about the other Neil sparked my interest in all things spacey which has stayed with me to this day.

Rest in peace other Neil.

Also, there’s some new wee bits and bobs in my shop if you have a minute for a look.

Who hoo – It’s Coming

At last, the wait is over, Series 7 of Dr Who gets underway this Saturday.

For those of us that remember the very first Doctor -William Hartnell, the shaky sets and watching in black and white from the very beginning of this British saga, the latest incarnation is far removed from its roots. The special effects are up there with the very best and the series can still make the cold crinklies run up and down ones spine.

Watch the trailer for the new series…..

Asylum of the Daleks: Saturday, 7.20pm on BBC One!
