Not in the public interest – So says CPS
There is something seriously wrong, with so called justice in this country.
Just one of the comments regarding this article in the Mail.
A seventeen year old thug beats up a fifteen year using his victims own crutches and the CPS have stated that prosecuting the thug is not in the public interest.
How can this be ?
We the public want these thugs removed from the streets.
We the public want to be able to walk the streets without the risk of un-provoked attack.
We the public want our police to have the support of the CPS, to not feel that their efforts are to no avail.
We the public want our justice system to start clamping down on the thugs that plague our streets.
And most of all, we the public, want justice for the victims of crime.
15 year old Angus Whittall needed 12 stitches for a gash in his mouth and suffered severe bruising to his head and neck.
The thug that caused these injuries just gets a wrist slap, a “final warning”. The implication there is that he has done this before. He is still out on the streets and able to do this again.
The law is pathetic.
The CPS has too often let the public down, has let the police down and most of all they have let down Angus Whittall and his family.
Mike Harding – Fired on the phone after 15 years with the BBC
‘I’d like to thank Mike Harding, who has spent 15 years at the top of his game, delighting fans with his expertise and rooting out the very best folk music. On his watch, folk has enjoyed a huge surge in popularity and Mike has been key in supporting the genre and introducing Radio 2 listeners to a broad range of new artists.
So says Bob Shennan, controller of Radio 2, who has sacked Mike Harding.
This is the corporation doing what they do best, cocking things up.
And for why ?
To make room for former Radio 1 breakfast show host Mark Radcliffe. Are they going to have him host a folk show, I don’t think so. So not only is this a slap in the face for Mike Harding but it is a catastrophe for the British folk fans. The loss of a national weekly folk show will be hard for the BBC to recover from.
This decision makes absolutely no sense.

Heroes barred from receiving Russian medal – Why ?
Between 1941 and 1945 British warships escorted 78 convoys carrying thousands of aircraft, anti-aircraft guns, trucks and tanks, fuel, food, tools and other vital supplies through the Barents Sea to the Russian ports of Murmansk and Archangel in a voyage Winston Churchill described as ‘the worst journey in the world.’
The Foreign Office has blocked plans by the Russian government to honour Arctic Convoy veterans with a medal for valour.
The convoys kept Russia supplied to keep fighting the Nazis on Germany’s eastern front, and have been credited with ensuring Hitler did not triumph.
But while the Ushakov medal has been handed to veterans from Australia, Canada and the United States for their role in the convoys, the British government is refusing to allow it to be given to British veterans.
Apparently “rules are rules”
Under UK law, citizens are allowed to receive foreign medals and awards only if the British government gives them permission, and only if the award relates to the recipient’s activities within past five years.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: ‘The rules on the acceptance of foreign awards state that for permission to be given for an award to be accepted, there has to have been specific service to the country concerned and that service should have taken place within the previous five years.
‘Additionally, permission cannot be granted if they have received, or are expected to receive, a UK award for the same services.
‘All British Veterans of the Convoys were eligible for the World War Two Atlantic Star. Additionally, a lapel badge (the Arctic Emblem) was introduced in 2006 and some 10,000 have been issued.’
This unbelievable, bureaucracy gone mad and it is a slap in the face for the veterans.
It is time that the faceless civil servants in Whitehall woke up and its time that our government stopped dithering with regard to recognising the exploits of our servicemen.
How can there ever be a time limit on recognising the sacrifices our servicemen make.
For once I am in complete agreement with Mike Hancock. He said
‘It is absolutely ridiculous and shameless. This country can’t even give them the medal but we can stop them from getting a medal from the people they went to help. It’s an absolute disgrace on his (Hague’s) part and it’s a slur on this country.
It seems that our government can waive this rule when it suits them which makes this decision much more of a slap in the face for the arctic veterans.
Veterans of a conflict in Malaysia in the 1960s were allowed to wear the Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal, given to them by the Malaysian government in recognition of their service.
Not only was that conflict 50 years ago, but the veterans of it had also previously been given a medal from the British government.
A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office accepted the rules had been waived once, but said that it had to treat all World War Two veterans the same or else be faced with thousands of medal requests.
Seems all the civil servants are worried about is a sudden increase in their workload.
Despicable.
It is time to get a sense of perspective and give these folks the medal they deserve.

Congratulations Felix Baumgartner
Felix Baumgartner has safely returned to earth having successfully ascended to over 128,000 feet.
He took around 10 minutes to return to earth and to enter the history books. Yet to be confirmed it is hoped that he will have set records for the highest manned balloon flight, the highest ever skydive and to have broken the sound barrier.
One other record he was hoping to beat was that set by Joe Kittenger for the longest free fall. Unfortunately Joe Kittenger has retained that honour by a just a few seconds.
Felix Baumgartner, I salute you. You have pushed the boundaries a little further out.
Why Are People So Cruel ?
The girl who made this video, Amanda Todd, 15, was found dead at her home in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, on Wednesday. She was a victim of bullying. Both of the cyber and the physical kind. Authorities believe her death was due to suicide following a prolonged bullying campaign.
It is with an immense feeling of sadness that I repost her video here. Thanks to Chris Jordan on whose blog I first read about Amanda
This young lady was systematically degraded, isolated and physically assaulted. I cannot comprehend the mentality of the people who hounded her so mercilessly. One can only hope that they have now seen Amanda’s video and that it is a wakeup call for them and for any others out there that have embarked on a similar path, who may already have someone in their sights.
My concern is that there are some sick individuals who will see Amanda’s death as a positive outcome.
Amanda’s mum Carol said she wanted the video to warn others of the dangers of cyber bullying.
She told the Vancouver Sun: “Amanda was a very caring individual. She would help others who needed help.“One of Amanda’s goals was to get her message out there and have it used as a learning tool for others.”
I just hope Amanda’s Mum is right.
Destruction Of An Icon ?
I have been watching the ongoing reporting and investigations into Jimmy Saville with a large degree of disquiet.
This man was a household name, present in our living rooms for a number of years, via “Top of the Pops” “Clunk Click” and “Jim’ll Fix It” on a weekly basis. He was famous for all the charitable works and the public persona he presented showed no real hint of the revelations now gracing the newspapers and other media. He was and is an icon but that status
Assuming that the allegations, that are now coming to light about “Uncle Jimmy”, are true then there is no doubt that he was aided by his staff and those at the BBC. The weight of anecdotal evidence is growing daily. Only time will tell if the police determine if this turns into solid evidence.
I do have some understanding why the young girls did not come forward at the time and make complaints. It is for the same reason that any child does not complain about being abused by family members, parents or priests. There is always a sense of power or fear although that comes down to the same thing in the final analysis.
While I do understand the victims reluctance or reticence to speak out, I don’t understand the many people around Saville who stood by and DID NOTHING.
I watched the Exposure documentary on ITV and one person describes being dragged away from Saville after an alleged assault. She describes how the staff berated her for her bad mouth and told her that she would only be allowed back into the inner circle if she retracted what she had said about him. This in itself is the staff condoning what he, Saville, was doing.
Many people have now come forward and described the rumours that were going around the BBC. Rumours that had gone up to senior management. Yet nobody did anything, nobody warned Saville to back off, to stop doing whatever he was doing that was feeding the “rumours”.
All these people colluded with Saville and by their inaction provided him with a steady supply of victims. We as a society let the victims down because we created a an untouchable “star”, a celebrity that nobody wanted to cross in case it impacted the charitable works he was involved in.
One also has to question where the press has been in all of this. With all the rumours that were going around I am absolutely amazed that the press did not pick this up and run with it. After all they have run with less and hounded people with less to be ashamed about.
The disquiet I feel is that a “star”, someone who I sat and watched with my children in our living room, a person that we admired and respected is in fact somewhat tarnished.
I am also feeling sorrow for the charities that must be wondering what may have happened under the umbrella of their charity names, have they been tarnished by Savilles activities ? To a degree I also feel sorry for his remaining family members although I suspect that they may have had some idea of what “Uncle Jimmy” was like.
But most of all I feel very sorry for the victims that have had to live with the memory of his actions.
Good-Bye Abu Hamza
Finally Home Secretary Theresa May has been given the go-ahead for the immediate extradition of the radical cleric to the U.S.
Leastways I hope it really is good-bye. This fiasco has been going on for too long. Eight years this person has been running rings round the authorities and all at the British taxpayers expense. His latest attempt, to obtain a scan to show that he was unfit to stand trial, seems like desperation especially now that the European Courts of Human Rights have opted not to intervene. Hamza knows that the Yanks aren’t a soft touch like the British authorities and that they are likely to hand down severe sentences.
The sooner he is out of this country the better.
Once he’s gone then the authorities can focus their attentions on Julian Assange another one who is running rings around British authorities.
