£1,000 Of Sun Cream !!!


Around 12pm on Wednesday 14 February, a man entered the store, putting around £1,000 worth of sun cream products into a tote bag and leaving again without paying.

Officers have launched an investigation following the incident at the Boots store in Whiteley Shopping Centre this Wednesday (February 14). Police have released a CCTV image of a male as part of their enquiries.

What I want to know is where on earth he is headed that he needs that quantity of sun cream.

Is he off on his hollibobs ? If so is he going to the centre of the sun ?

Or perhaps he is concerned that the world is rushing headlong into WWIII and believes the sun slop will protect him from a thermonuclear flash.

By my calculation, at the expensive end of the scale £1000 could buy over 30 bottles of  La Roche-Posay Anthelios Age Correction SPF50+, which is 1.5l of sun slop. Alternatively, at the cheaper end, over 285 bottles of Soltan Protect & Moisturise SPF50+ 75ml Mini Sun Cream Spray could be had. Which is over 21l of sun slop.

That’s enough to bathe in.

I know I’m taking the mickey, but shoplifting is no joke. There seems to be an epidemic in this country. Our papers are full of stories of shop staff being threatened when they confront these thieves.

My granddaughter was working a store where a shoplifter had grabbed a load of booze who then faced her and told her he was stealing it.

I, myself have witnessed a female clear a chiller cabinet of meat and then walk straight out of the store.

And it is the blatant manner of this thievery almost like it is becoming acceptable.

I can sort of understand stealing food to be able to feed your family.

But is there any nutritional value to sun tan lotion ?

I totally agree with this sentiment.

Increasingly, over the years, my view has become that anyone who breaks the law automatically relinquishes their rights to protection under the law.

I also believe that these “scroats” should be prepared for some public humiliation. Bring back the birch, stocks, and pillory.

I would fully support the introduction of US style chain gangs, wearing bright jackets with the crime emblazoned across the back.

Police Crackdown on Shoplifting

This is good news but I feel it is just the tip of the iceberg. Staff in supermarkets have to deal with shoplifters on a daily basis and in some cases, several times a day.

A police statement said: “Targeting shoplifters is a priority for the district, and we will be relentlessly pursuing those that are violent to staff or are repeat offenders………”

My granddaughter used to work in a local Tesco store where shoplifters were brazen, would frequently front staff, telling them what they were taking and that they, the staff, could do nothing about it. Staff are told not to confront shoplifters due to the danger of assault.

Shoplifters are scum, the lowest of the low. They are a blight on modern society.

Regardless of the UK economy, lack of a job or home, there is no excuse for subjecting shop staff to abuse, threats of, and actual physical violence.

If the authorities know that 20% of the youth crime in Portsmouth is committed by just 6 children why are they still out on the streets ?

Instead of trying to redirect the little darlings, which costs money and leaves them on the streets to continue committing crime, why don’t we lock them up ?

It’s already costing Joe Public money to chase them down and persuade them of the error of their ways so lets just cut our losses. Lock them up. The shop keepers and their other victims will be able to relax. The reduction in shoplifting will allow the insurance premiums to come down and we will have cheaper goods to buy.

Seems like a win win situation.
