Webbers F1 Woes

Once again Mark Webber is suffering from an attack of the gremlins. His KERS system let him down during qualifying hence his position on the grid. So yet again he has an uphill task in todays GP. Good luck Mark.

Go The Brits

Just watching the F1 coverage of the Chinese GP. Tension building as the start approaches. Button and Hamilton are well placed to knock the young upstart, Vettel, from his leading position in the competition. Or at least close the gap. So rooting for both of them.

All The Best Jackie

Former F1 World Champion Jackie Stewart was taken ill during a flight from Geneva last night.

The word is that he is being kept in hospital for checks.

Best wishes Jackie. Get well soon.

Bahrain GP Cancelled

To say that I am disappointed that the Bahrain F1 GP has been cancelled would be a bit of an understatement.

It’s OK for all you football fans, the season never really ends any more. There is football available on the TV 365 days a year. OK so some of it isn’t British football but it is there for you to watch.

For F1 fans there is nothing from the end of one season to the next.

And now, just when the F1 juices have started to flow with the Bahrain race due to run on the 13th March, we are faced with a further two-week delay before the season truly starts.

And before the dissenting voices start beating me up and telling me that human life takes precedence over sport.

I do truly, totally agree. I wish the Bahrain people well and hope that there is no more bloodshed or injuries.

But as a F1 fan it is my right to feel disappointed.

Best Wishes To Renault’s Robert Kubica

Best wishes to Robert Kubica for a swift recovery following his crash on Sunday.

F1 in particular and motor Sport in general needs this mans talent. With the F1 season due to start in a few weeks an essential element of spice is going to be missing from the mix.

Renault’s Robert Kubica airlifted to hospital after being injured in rally crash – Telegraph.

Why Wasn’t Schumacher Black Flagged ?

Schumacher nearly put Barrichello into the wall with his “late” closing of the “door” during yesterdays Hungarian Grand Prix.

Once again showing the style of driving that has put many drivers “out of the race” during his career. In this case it was his former team-mate from his days at Ferrari. And once again Schumi accused Barrichello of whingeing.

Of course it’s never Schumis fault. Well in his mind anyway. Thankfully we have TV cameras and Stewards who can take a rational look at the evidence.

And what did they decide ?

They have handed down a 10-place grid penalty for the next grand prix in Belgium.

To my mind he should have been black flagged yesterday AND given the grid penalty for the next race.

What a Scorcher

Way To Go Webber !!!

In what could have been another processional race Mark Webber stormed to the finishing line to take the chequered flag to win the  Hungarian Grand Prix and to take the number one slot for the championship as the F1 circus heads into the mid-season break.

What a performance Mark gave.  A combination of the rolling out of the safety car followed by Vettel being given a drive thru penalty, after being caught asleep (his own words) when the safety car went in, put Webber in the front. But he still needed to pit for a tyre change. Mark then proceeded to lay down scorching lap after scorching lap until he had built the buffer he needed to allow him to pit and rejoin the circuit ahead of Alonso and his own team-mate, Vettel. After that there was no looking back.

Mark now leads the championship a position that he has every right to hold. However, although there is now a 3 week break Mark will not be able to rest on his laurels. There are only 20 points separating the top 5 drivers which is going to make the remaining seasons races very interesting.

But for the moment, well done Mark.

Ferrari – Inglorious Bastards – Cheats & Liars

Here we go again. Ferrari and their blatant cheating.

First there was Schumacher & Barrichello and now we have a repeat performance with Massa having to give way to Alonso. It appears that Schumacher says he understands the Ferrari team positionbut then he would say that wouldn’t he……See Here

Ferrari should be banned from any more races this season let alone a paltry $100,000 fine.

Get them out of F1 and strip Alonso of his place and points

RED BULL GIVES YOU WHINGES

I make no apology for copying the following selection from Planet-F1’s current pages.  And yes the title of this post is a direct steal too.

It put a smile on my face hopefully it will put one on yours.

RED BULL GIVES YOU WHINGES
Angry Austrian Dr Helmut (Skid) Marko has said that if anyone it’s Mark Webber who the team seems to be favouring. The Red Bull motorsport advisor is said to be particularly incensed at the Silverstone incident because it detracts from the Red Bull catchphrase – Red Bull Gives You Other Drivers’ Wings.
In an interview with AutoSprint this week he suggested that conspiracy theorists would think that the team actually favoured Webber not his German team-mate. “If I was Vettel then I would have suspected the opposite. Which car has permanently had something damaged?” ranted (full-face) Helmut. “Did Mark have the defective spark plug in Bahrain, the loose wheel in Australia, the broken brake disc in Barcelona, the defective chassis in Monte Carlo, the transmission problems in Montreal and now the broken wing at Silverstone?”
Suggesting that there might have been sabotage within the team at the opening race of the season is a pretty extreme view, however Mark Webber has now had clear-the-air talks with team boss Christian Horner and they have agreed a way forward. He is going to change his name to Willi.

And He Came 4th Too

Who’s a lucky boy then ?

Francisco Carvalho that’s who. Left the track following a collision during racing at Brands Hatch this weekend. Not only did he survive, but due to the race stoppage he was classified as finishing 4th and having driven the fastest lap.
