‘Good you little s***’: What hotelier said to thief who broke both ankles fleeing (and the JUDGE agreed with him)

For once we are not hearing that a judge is prosecuting the victim of the crime.

Judge Erik Salomonsen told thief Darryl Philips ‘When you jumped off the car park and broke your ankles and the man pursuing you expressed no sympathy, he was expressing the view that most of the residents of the town would express.’

Not just the town of Torquay. I think many people around the world would agree and say that this thief is getting his just deserts.

“Get ‘Em Out by Friday”

“a key adviser to David Cameron suggested that elderly people should be encouraged to go back to work and move into smaller homes”

which prompted the Telegraph headline “Government accused of ‘social engineering’ over plan to make elderly move out of their homes”

This does indeed sound very much like Social Engineering. It also sounds very much like real life mirroring the lyrics of the Genesis song “Get ‘Em Out by Friday”.

I should like to suggest that there is a parallel between the song and what is being suggested by Dr. David Halpern and supported by David Cameron:

The song by Genesis, in the style of a play, was set back in the 60’s and 70’s when there were many unscrupulous landlords. John Pebble was a satirical take on landlords similar to Peter Rachman, a notorious London slum landlord who used “winkling” (a mixture of threats and inducements) to remove tenants on low rents from properties and enable their profitable reletting or redevelopment.Hence the Mark Hall character in the song, also known as “The Winkler”. The song moves verse by verse through time and enforced population movement. Ultimately bringing the listener, to the year 2012 where Genetic Control has announced that they are restricting the height of all humans to four feet. It is then revealed that  the reason behind the restriction is so that Genetic Control, who has recently bought some properties, will be able to accommodate twice as many people in the same tower block.

  • David Cameron: A business man (John Pebble)
Cameron the head of UK Limited has a problem. His employee, Joe Public, and Joe’s ever-increasing family need housing. Cameron also has to find money to pay to many of Joes family members who don’t actually work and therefore do not contribute to UK Limiteds profit margin. In addition he has to find the money to pay to  retirees. Retirees are ex employees of UK Limited. They are employees who had previously contributed to the well-being of UK Limited but have reached the end of their useful working lives. Leastways, according to the rules drawn up by Cameron’s predecessors, the previous heads of UK Limited.
  • David Halpern:  A Cameron  advisor (Mark Hall aka “The Winkler”)
Mr Halpern, the director of the No.10 Behavioural Insight Team, known as the “nudge unit”. He heads the government team which has the task of developing ways to change people’s behaviour that do not require legislation or other heavy-handed actions from the state.
    Halpern has two brilliant ideas.

    1. Suggests that Cameron “increase the retirement age in line with life expectancy which could see workers remaining in employment until well into their seventies” Therefore UK Limited could delay paying the pension and therefore save millions of pounds.
    2. Suggests that it is the retirees who are inhabiting homes that they purchased with their hard-earned money. Homes that, now that their children have moved out, are too big for them. His suggest is that these selfish people should move to smaller homes therefore making their larger homes available for Joe Public’s offspring. This eviction of the retirees can be hidden under a very clever smoke screen, the “dangers associated with elderly people becoming lonely and isolated after retiring”. Convince them that they would be better off living in a care home or sheltered accommodation.

In this way Halpern, at a stroke, resolves two of Cameron’s most difficult problems.

  • Joe Public : Employee of UK Limited (Mrs Barrow)
Joe’s family is made up of a wide range of population types. But, due to improving health care is tending to live longer. During their working lives many of Joes family members have worked hard to be able to buy their own homes. This they were encouraged to do by the various bosses of UK Limited. They were encouraged to share in the prosperity of UK Limited and by buying their own homes they were ploughing the wages back into the company.
However, many of Joe’s family are becoming nervous about how they are going to survive especially if the rules are changed to make them work longer and if they are coerced into moving out of their own homes. Homes that have memories associated with bringing up their own children.

OK we don’t have Genetic Control, Yet !!!

Does anyone out there think that it is a bit creepy that our government has  a department called

Behavioural Insight Team, known as the “nudge unit” which has the task of developing ways to change people’s behaviour that do not require legislation or other heavy-handed actions from the state.

Car Surfing – Insane

Just read about a court case that has taken place in the US.

Where else ?

Apparently two 18 year olds were clinging to the side of their friends SUV while he, their friend, drove. Two other friends were “safely” inside the vehicle when it reached an estimated 70 mph, in a 35 mph zone. The passengers realised that the were about to crash and screamed for the driver to stop before the inevitable happened.  The two surfers were killed in the resulting wreck which saw the SUV overturn and burst into flames. The driver and remaining passengers were hospitalised.

The driver did not contest the charges of reckless driving and vehicular homicide.

I am surprised at the homicide charge but I suppose, since it was his car he is responsible. After all the two teens that died do not appear to have been coerced so they must be assumed to have been partially responsible.

According to the mobile phone movie footage, one of the teens is heard to say “This is insane” and another is heard saying “If I died, remember this is Carlos’s idea

What these fools were doing is not unusual. There are numerous film clips available on the web that show many variations on the same theme including one where the video description is

“My friend Tyler climbs on to hood of car and I drive one handed from passenger seat while the cruise is set at 80mph and hold my phone out the window with other hand and record him…..crazy mother f*****.”

Unbelievable.

Anyone who does this has to be short a few brain cells and all who do it are heading for their own place in the Darwin Awards.

Charles Dickens Born 7th February, 1812 – 200 Today

English novelist Charles John Huffam Dickens was born on this day, 200 years ago, in Landport, Portsmouth.

Happy birthday Chas and good luck to Pompey as they kick off their year-long celebrations.

Happy Accession Day

Today the Queen is celebrating her 60th year on the throne.

A bit of a double edged sword this as it is also the day her father, George VI, died.

However, I hope she has many more years as our monarch.

God Save The Queen

Residents join the debate to improve Waterlooville

Councillor Buckley, hailed the Waterlooville Community Board meeting a success.

On what basis ?

Over 40 people turned up, 40 people out of a population in excess of 10000 residents. Not such a success from my view point.

Where the hell was the meeting of the Waterlooville Community Board advertised ? Surely a leaflet drop was in order to all residential homes.

I have lived in Waterlooville for 26 years and am thoroughly disgusted at the steady decline of the town centre. A decline that has been accelerated by the poor planning decisions that have been made over the years. I would have loved to have the opportunity to join in discussions about Waterloovilles future but was denied the opportunity due to lack of publicity.

Top Totty Beer – A real Brew-Ha Ha

I cannot believe the debate that this brew has caused. Haven’t our politicians got better things to spend their time on ?

A beer called Top Totty has been banned from the Strangers’ Bar in the House of Commons because its pump plate, featuring a half-naked woman, offended female MPs.

Half naked ??? Woman ???

Come on folks. Are women offended by women on the beach at Brighton when they are in their bikinis ? Of course not. Anyway, it isn’t even a real woman, it’s a caricature or cartoon if you like.

Kate Green, Shadow Equalities Minister, was apparently “disturbed” by the sight of the brew. Truth be known she spotted an opportunity for some self promotion by creating a fuss. Hence the discussion of this issue in the house.

In my view Kate Greens actions can only be seen as childish and demeaning for MPs in general. If MPs don’t have a sense of humour then they have no place in politics where they lay themselves open to ridicule on a daily basis.

Suited and booted, daredevil sailor Alex rides keel of yacht

You have to ask the question – Why ?

I think the aspect of this, that is more impressive than Alex riding the keel, is the angle at which the yacht is heeling over and not capsizing.
