Carriers ‘may have no jets until 2025’ – Britains Shame

The labour government sold this country down the pan and our current government isn’t doing anything to stop things going from bad to worse.

It is no wonder that the likes of Argentina are playing silly buggers by turning away British cruise ships and any ships flying the Falklands flag. This is what they did when, under Maggie’s government, they thought that Britain couldn’t reach them militarily.

Here we are, once the greatest sea power on the planet, reduced to a toothless second-rate nation.

There have been many warnings by folks far better qualified than me. Yet the British government takes no notice.

We are going to have two new aircraft carriers but no aircraft to put on them. The aircraft that were planned to be used are “not fit for purpose” as, due to a design fault, they cannot be landed on an aircraft carrier. At least the government could have kept the Harrier but apparently our planes have been sold off “cheap” to the US. Surely the fact that they wanted to buy them should have said something to our government.

How can anyone one allow us to end up in this situation. We have no carriers until 2020 and no aircraft to populate them until 2025.

Our government, both Labour and our current unholy alliance, should hang their heads in shame. They have not served the British people as they deserve.

£1m McDonald’s Bedhampton drive-through gets green light

Yet another farcical decision by our local planners.

Have they ever visited this site ? How many times have they sat in the queue waiting to either get into Asda to go shopping or even just to go and get fuel. Many times I have seen the traffic backed out of the site and I have decided to go elsewhere or even just go home to return another day.

I think it is just what we need, more traffic entering the Asda site. Admittedly when the store is closed and the kiosk-pay petrol pumps are closed then there really won’t be an issue. However, for the rest of the time i.e. during waking and normal working hours this new development will surely add to the aggravation.

As usual there are the weasely words about creating jobs but what will happen to the McDonald’s branch in Waterlooville centre. I’m guessing that it will fade away in the evenings.

RIP Davy – We Were All Believers

Davy Jones, lead singer with The Monkees, has passed away in his sleep. He died of a heart attack aged 66.

Jones, with the Monkees, was an integral part of our lives throughout the sixties. Many will also remember him appearing in Coronation Street.

Although not high on my list of favourite bands I will admit to enjoying many of their songs. Davy and the band have a place in my memories.

The music lives on…..we were and still are believers.

Yobs hurl brick at car from Portsmouth bridge – Haven’t Got Two Brain Cells To Rub Together

Yet another moron without two brain cells to rub together.

Someone out there knows who this is and needs to turn them into the police.

Elsewhere in the country there have already been serious injuries caused by idiots such as this.

If they really want to kill people, why don’t they join the army and head over to Afghanistan where they will be given the opportunity. At least then they can show how brave they really are. After all, motorists don’t throw bricks back at them.

50 Years – Would You Believe It ?

I was nearly ten when 41-year-old John Glenn clambered aboard the Friendship 7 Mercury capsule. How many of you out there remember watching this and the many subsequent launches. First in glorious Black and White and then in colour a few years later.

John Glenn was launched back into space aboard Space Shuttle Discovery in 1998 when he was 77. Glenn is now 90 years young. A true hero, having served in the Pacific during World War II he then saw action in the Korean War. Preparation perhaps for his greatest mission with NASA as part of the space program.

It was marvelous back then and I am still in awe of what was achieved then and what is being achieved now.

The civil service seems to be living in a parallel universe.

“The civil service seems to be living in a parallel universe.”

So says Tory MP Philip Davies who went on to say “It just goes to show how much more Whitehall waste the Government can cut,” This in response to the revelations that Civil servants can receive compensation for clothes damaged at work even if they are to blame.

It beggars belief that civil servants can accept these perks at the tax payers expense. Once again we are finding out that the civil service are taking us, the tax payers, for a ride.

Now that the news has broken let’s hope that Cameron takes swift action to see that this perk is quashed else he will have to make it law that the private sector has to offer the same perks. And we all know what the likelihood of that happening is.

Don’t we ?

I’m An Atheist Too

I’m an atheist too but I don’t agree with the actions of Clive Bone and his supporters and I don’t believe that a High Court ruling was necessary.

Fareham Borough Council leader, Cllr Sean Woodward, has vowed to carry on with the council’s tradition of starting meetings with prayers despite the recent High Court ruling.

At the High Court in London, Mr Justice Ouseley ruled it was not lawful to say prayers as part of formal meetings under a clause of the Local Government Act 1972.

This countries traditions are being eroded and this green and pleasant land is becoming a bland, dark place. Part of what made Britain “Great” was the tolerance for diversity. Slowly but surely religion is being squeezed out of our daily lives yet we are being force-fed intolerance and trash by the tabloids and other media.

By the way, did I say that I am an atheist or perhaps I am an agnostic atheist. So don’t worry that I am getting all religious in my old age. But I am getting concerned that bit by bit we are losing the variety, the diversity of input that helps us all to make sense of the world around us. Just because an individual doesn’t want a particular form of input, doesn’t derive any value from that input doesn’t mean that it isn’t of value to others. I will be the first to agree that we should not be force-fed from any single doctrine.

And so, one of the items on the radio that I enjoy almost every day is  “Pause For Thought” on the Chris Evans show. This part of the show brings guest contributors who impart words of wisdom. Nothing too heavy and not always from members of the Christian faith. Sometimes these moments are cringe-worthy in the extreme but the point is that, on many occasions, these folks make you stop and think about life issues from a different perspective. I also used to listen to “Thought For The Day” on Radio 4s Today.  I note that there are many questioning voices being raised in the press. Voices that would deny the validity of any form of religious commentary during mainstream programming. These same voices claim that the right and proper place for the likes of “Pause For Thought and “Thought For The Day” is to be relegated to religious programs. That is stupid. People such as myself will not tune in to listen to such programs.

Many years ago, when I went to school, every day the whole school gathered for assembly every day. We sang hymns and there were prayers said. It was a C of E school and the prayers were said in the Christian style. We had kids from the local Pestalozzi Village. They were from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tibet, Nepal and India. They were, therefore, of many differing faiths. The point I am making is that they were not C of E but they still attended. Even back then I considered myself an atheist but it didn’t bother me to have to listen to the daily service. It didn’t seem to bother the Pestalozzi kids either.

And so back to the purpose of this post. All over the country council meetings have been held that have, by tradition, said prayers before council business is discussed. But because of one atheist, Clive Bone, there is now a High Court ruling making it illegal to include prayers as part of council business. He, Clive Bone, says he feels uncomfortable and embarrassed to be present while these prayers are being said. Couldn’t he have stepped out of chambers while the prayers were said or perhaps just arrived a few minutes later if he didn’t want to participate.

Was it really necessary  for him to make so much fuss and take this to the courts ?

By the way did I say that I am an atheist too. It doesn’t stop me from going to christenings, marriages, funerals and other ceremonies which have a religious base. I don’t say the prayers but I still join in the singing.

I wonder does Clive Bone go to any  faith based  ceremonies ?

So I say more power to your elbow Mr Woodward. I am pleased to see someone making a stand against this stupid and unnecessary High Court Ruling.

Priorities All Wrong

I have just been watching a national news program and the main item of news is the death of Whitney  Houston. Why ?

How does the death of Whitney Houston take priority over serious world problems ? I agree that, for some people, Houston was an amazing singer. However, we need to keep a sense of perspective. The news is full of much more serious and important issues yet it gets pushed into lower priority by the death of a singer.

I think we need to examine the standards of our society. A society where celebrity takes precedence over real issues.
