How Narrow Minded Can You Get ?

I read this article and couldn’t believe the attitude of the folks that live in Tangier Road.

Of all the possible businesses that they could have dumped on their door steps, they are up in arms against a chapel of rest.

Residents have put up ‘Stop dead bodies coming to Tangier Road’ posters. What are they expecting ? The March Of The Zombies

One resident says  “I don’t want my grandchildren looking at dead bodies.” Anyone would think they bring them in on a hand cart.

The reaction of these people is outrageous and a prime example of the way this country is going. It’s all me me me and no respect for our fellow man and no respect for the bereaved and their families.

I am glad to see that the bulk, if not all, of the comments attached to this article show how ridiculous these folks are.

Brought Down By Mussels

http://newslite.tv/2012/01/12/canada-antiterror-barrier-atta.html

Time and time again mans best efforts are belittled by nature. Here is a prime example. The humble mussel, with no arms or legs, manages to reduce the Canadian Navy defences to useless junk.

Tropicana

Gerry and I spent a lovely but decidedly chilly day in Brighton yesterday. A day spend meandering around The Lanes, browsing the shops, having lunch at The Druids Head and culminating with a visit to the Brighton Centre to see the latest Holiday on Ice presentation “Tropicana – The Passion Tour”. The food served at The Druids Head was superbly prepared, great taste and good value. They were also serving mulled wine which was very welcome given the outside temperatures. The ice show was impressive. With many champion skaters in the cast the skating was, of course, brilliant. The choreography was entertaining and in some parts, exciting. Overall I would say it is a very good show and would recommend it to everyone especially if you like the songs of Barry Manilow, around which many of the set pieces are based.

Arctic Veterans Scandal – Sign The Petition

British sailors braved horrendous conditions on gruelling missions to supply Russia in the Second World War.  The then Prime Minister,  Winston Churchill, called the convoys ‘the worst journey in the world’.

Over 66,000, Royal and Merchant Navy, sailors faced horrendous journeys in the Arctic Circle. Under attack ,both from the weather and from Nazi planes and  submarines.

More than 3,000 British men died in these Arctic Convoys and yet these brave men seem to have been forgotten. They have never been awarded a medal.

Since the end of the war  successive British governments have ignored the role Arctic veterans played in securing our freedom and still will not award them a medal today.

It seems to me that our governments, in recent times, are only too pleased to reward celebrity. You only have to look at the new years honours lists to see the numbers of people rewarded for their activities in Sports, the Arts and Media. In the 2012 list they are even rewarding the producer of Ready Steady Cook and Big Brother for gods sake.

Come on Cameron & Clegg get a grip

The surviving veterans are now well into their 90s. Its time our government did the right thing.

If you agree with me then please help to get this  issue properly debated in the House of Commons.

Please sign this epetition calling for an Arctic Medal

You will see that I have re-blogged from a couple of other posters that I have been following. Thought their content might be of interest to you folks.

Probably of more interest than my burblings.

This is a nice idea – basically, the background never changes but if you follow the moving ‘star’, it will appear to shift.

Does it work for you?

Landing a Rafale an aircraft carrier. At night. A video shows why a night trap is the scariest and most demanding kind of flying.

Who wants to give this a try ? Not sure I would want to be a passenger let alone in control. Now where did they put that carrier ?

Ever wondered how’s landing a jet on an aircraft carrier at night?

This French Navy Rafale’s HUD (Head Up Display) video gives a hint. Barely visible at the beginning of the footage (a very little light) is the (pitching) deck, filled with planes, people and an “island”.

Alongside the Eurofighter Typhoon, the French “omnirole” combat plane was extensively involved in Libya as well as shortlisted in the estimated $11 billion India’s Medium Multirole Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) tender whose winner should be made public in the next three weeks (for these reasons, I used a video of a French plane and not one of an American jet, to show you the thrill of a “night trap”).

Thanks to Riccardo Braccini for the heads up on FB.
