The world is a sadder place following the news that blues guitarist Gary Moore has passed away.
Gary was one of the worlds most revered guitarists who shared the stage with many heroes of the blues and rock genre including B.B. & Albert King, Colosseum, Greg Lake, Thin Lizzy and Skid Row. It is through his playing with Skid Row that I first encountered Gary and became an avid fan. I was introduced to the album, Skid, by some enlightened friends. Bob & Sue …. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. Skid was the first album for Skid Row and was released back in 1970 when Gary would have been just 18. I remember being impressed with his speed and dexterity.
And now I’ve just realised that he and I shared the same year of birth and that he didn’t quite make it to his 59th birthday.
58 is no age at all.

58 certainly is no age at all. But a few of my friends have died younger. My friend I used to go to Donington Festival with died at 43 and another at 51.
Gary Moore was a brilliant guitarist – probably one of the best in the world (although I also like Michael Schenker slightly more I think). I always thought he should give the singing to someone else though!
Parisian Walkways was one of my favourite tracks of all time. Have you heard Michael Weikath’s (Helloween) ‘Les Hambourgeois Walkways’ – similar concept and not quite as talented but good.
Carol.
Hi Carol,
I too have bid farewell to a few friends and colleagues who have departed planet earth a bit too soon. Sadly most have succumbed to the big C.
Gary Moore was very good and you certainly got your money’s worth at one of his shows. He never gave less than 100% during a performance. I’m ashamed to say I have never heard of Michael Weikath. However, I will make a point of looking him up and will give ‘Les Hambourgeois Walkways’ a listen. I’m always open to listening to new music even if the tracks / bands are old releases.
